Celebrating New Year’s Eve Cornwall style.

Most people will not immediately think of Cornwall as a place to celebrate New Year’s Eve. They instead think of Cornwall as a place to visit during the summer months when you can grab a surf board and go surfing, or at least try.

Cornwall really is a place worth visiting all year round though and New Year’s Eve is no exception to this with great celebrations taking place around the county. A trio of seaside towns really stand out as places worth spending your New Year’s Eve.

St Ives

St Ives has built up a reputation as one of the best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve due to its’ vibrant street entertainment, fireworks and masses of people in fancy dress. Shy about dressing up? Well if you don’t here you will be the odd one out as superheroes, princesses, Star Wars characters and hundreds of other fancy dress costumes wander the streets for what is effectively a massive street party around the harbour, beach and winding streets.

Newquay

Newquay is another great place you can enjoy some old Cornish cider and enjoy dressing up in just about any fancy dress costume you desire on New Year’s Eve. People come from far and wide to celebrate in the town most known for its’ surfing. Jovial party goers roam the streets before congregating in the town’s central square for the midnight countdown and a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

Looe

Looe is the only one of our Cornish trio to be based on Cornwall’s South coast however many of the celebrations are similar. Like Newquay and St Ives, the people of Looe celebrate the start of the New Year dressed in wonderful, and ridiculous fancy dress costumes. There are plenty of restaurants to enjoy a meal in while you count down the hours til the firework display from the beach at midnight.
